We’ve had a few emails asking why we haven’t included birth experts “of colour” in our videos.
This is a very good question and the short answer is probably because we are only just at the very beginning of our journey and have only completed the first round of filming in the UK with a slight detour to Strasbourg in France where we filmed some interviews at the Midwifery Today Conference.
So far we have been guided as to whom we should film, which is the way we want it to be, and we haven’t as yet come across a huge ethnic diversity. So far we have filmed interviews with participants from:
- The UK
- The US
- New Zealand
We’re heading to Canada and the States in November, traveling from Toronto all the way down to Florida to get more interviews and to cover as many local campaigns as we possibly can.
So now it’s up to all of you to suggest whom we should film on our journey. One of the most exciting aspects of this project is that we are going to be immersed in a multitude of cultures – that is, after all, one of the main reasons Toni and I became filmmakers in the first place!
The overall purpose of One World Birth is to bring people together from all around the world so that we can learn from one another, be inspired by each other and to support one another. Some cultures have got birth absolutely right whereas others are struggling against adversity to take birth back; which means there is plenty to talk about!
