We’ve just got back from our amazing whistlestop One World Birth trip to US / Canada. We travelled over 4,000 miles from Canada down to Florida and filmed over 100 interviews and wow, what an eye-opener.

Our trip took us from the MANA/ACNM/CAM joint conference in Ontario, down to filming homebirth midwives in New Jersey, obstetricians in Virginia, chiropractors in North Carolina, the amazing Ina May Gaskin on The Farm in Tennessee, doulas in Georgia and midwives in Florida – and lots more besides.

We thought we had an idea about what was happening with birth in North America today, but after speaking to all the midwives, doulas, birth educators, academics, obstetricians, campaigners & parents – now we really KNOW what is happening. And overall, the picture isn’t pretty. There are many amazing people doing fantastic work but there is so much that needs to change to make the experience of birth better for everyone.

Now the hard work for us really begins. Going through all the fantastic footage so that we can share what we filmed with you all.

Many many thanks for everyone who helped and supported us on our journey, including a big “shout-out” THANK YOU to our very generous hosts: Charity Pigeau in Shelburne Ontario, Lisa Lederer in Hackettstown New Jersey, Therese Hak-Kuhn in Richmond Virginia, Jeanne-Marie Floyd in Raleigh North Carolina, Ina May Gaskin at The Farm in Tennessee, Teresa Howard in Atlanta Georgia, Patricia O’Connor in Gainesville Florida and also Terrie Watkins in Orlando, Florida.
